In this fireside chat format webinar, we will hear from Suzanne Trottier, President of First Nations Bank Trust and Gord Keesic, Portfolio Manager, Vice-President and National Head, Indigenous Investment Services at RBC Global Asset Management, speaking about their careers, their commitments to their communities, their organizations and the financial services industry.

Moderated by Marissa Nobauer, Director, Reconciliation and Indigenous Connectivity at TELUS and Shoaib Baig of TELUS Health, we will explore themes such as investment approaches working with Indigenous trusts, and sovereign wealth funds the future of investing for Indigenous communities, and gain a personal perspective on challenges and opportunities for investment professionals of Indigenous heritage.

Suzanne Trottier is currently President of First Nations Bank Trust, a member of the Board of Directors of the Business Development Bank of Canada, Vice-Chair of the InBC Investment Corp. Board of Directors and an Advisory Council Member at the Lawrence National Centre for Policy and Management at the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario. Based in Vancouver today, she holds the CFA designation and an MBA in Finance from the University of Western Ontario as well as a BA from the University of Manitoba. She is a proud Métis who grew up in Manitoba with maternal roots to the Lake Manitoba First Nation.

Gordon Keesic

Portfolio Manager, Vice-President and National Head, Indigenous Investment Services at RBC Global Asset Management

Gordon Keesic is currently Portfolio Manager, Vice-President and National Head, Indigenous Investment Services at RBC Global Asset Management and is a Board Member of Ondaadiziwin Forest Management Inc. in Northwestern Ontario. He holds the CFA designation and an Executive MBA from Athabasca University as well as a B.Ed. from Lakehead University and a B.A. with Brock University. Now based in Thunder Bay, Gordon is a proud member of the Lac Seul First Nation which is an Ojibwe First Nation near Dryden, Ontario.

Marissa Nobauer is Director, Reconciliation and Indigenous Connectivity at TELUS working with a team of passionate professionals across the business responsible for partnering with, advocating for and advancing access to broadband connectivity to Indigenous communities in our serving area and the implementation of TELUS’ first ever Indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan. Marissa holds a MSSc in International Development and Management (Lund University) and BA in Political Science (SFU). Outside of work Marissa can be found exploring the world and her backyard with her husband and son.

Shoaib Baig

Shoaib leads the Atlantic Investment and Risk Consulting Team at Telus Health and advises institutional clients on all aspects of investment and risk management, investment policy development, manager searches, including ESG Investing. Shoaib specializes in Farmland, Commercial Mortgages and Private Equity asset class research. Shoaib has a B.Sc in Banking and Finance from University of London (LSE), a LLM (Financial Services Law) from University of London (Queen Mary & UCL) and a Master in Public Policy from Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. He also holds the CFA and CAIA designations.
